THE DIRECTOR

Dr. Grisel Pujalá has been working with the CAFE project since 2001. She is interested in the visual history of the Cuban Diaspora and how diverse cultural contexts define and transform the meaning of the art production of Cuban diasporic writers and artists and how they weave together cultural elements from both their original and their host countries

ABOUT CAFÉ

CAFE was originally conceived in Mexico in 2001 by artists Yovani Bauta, Israel León and Leandro Soto, as an alternative space to explore the art of the Cuban Diaspora, and to give a voice to Cuban artists doing their work in different countries, away from mainstreams. Today CAFE is a cultural event that features poetry readings, lectures, curator's talk, panel discussions, films, documentaries and multimedia itinerant exhibitions that highlight a wide range of artists working with installation, performance art, photography and sculpture. Participating artists are Cuban diasporic, "heritage artists", (artists born and raised in the Diaspora) and artists residing in the island.

THE CURATOR

Leandro Soto has been consistently involved in the art world for the past 38 years, participating in numerous group shows and solo art exhibitions in museums, art galleries, and alternative spaces in various countries. Since 2001 he has been the main curator of the Cuban American Foremost Exhibitions.
